Must know
  • An email or SMS test never reaches guardians, members, or staff on the rule. For an email rule it lands in your own signed-in admin inbox; an SMS rule test doesn’t actually send a text — the test recipient carries no phone number, so it’s logged as Skipped instead.
  • Testing an announcement rule posts a real announcement to the notification bell for its audience, rather than emailing you.
  • Every send to a real recipient is recorded in the logs, ending as Pending, Sent, Failed, or Skipped — but a test on a disabled rule writes no row at all (see below).
Send a test. In Settings → Communication Setup → Notifications (the page is headed Notifications & Reminders), open the menu (the three dots) on any rule and choose Send Test. You’ll be asked to confirm. For an email rule, the test goes only to your admin email address, so you can preview the real wording safely. An SMS rule test can’t reach you — the test recipient has no phone number, so it’s logged as Skipped rather than delivered. For an announcement rule, the test posts a live announcement to the notification bell for that rule’s audience, so use it deliberately. You can also click Send Test on a disabled rule, but nothing goes out and no log row is added — so don’t trust the toast here. A disabled email or SMS rule still reports “0 sent, 0 skipped,” and a disabled announcement rule even says the announcement was posted when it wasn’t. Enable the rule first for a real test. Check what was sent. Scroll to the Notification Logs card at the bottom of the same page and click Show. Each row lists the date, the rule, the trigger, the delivery method, the recipient, and a status badge:
  • Pending — queued, not yet sent.
  • Sent — handed off to the email or text provider.
  • Failed — the send didn’t go through; hover the badge for the error.
  • Skipped — the recipient was excluded, for example because they opted out of email, hadn’t given SMS consent, or (on a test) had no phone number.
Filter by status to focus on failures or skips, and use the pager to move through history. You may notice a Delivered filter option, but notification-rule sends don’t currently reach that state, so those rows stay at Sent.
