Must know
  • A percentage discount takes a share off each eligible line; it is capped at 100% when you set it up.
  • A fixed-amount discount takes a set number of dollars off, but never more than the line’s own price.
  • The Max discount cap field only applies to percentage discounts.
On the Pricing step of the discount wizard you choose one of two value types with the % / $ toggle.

Percentage off

A percentage discount reduces each eligible line by that percent. For example, 20% off a 100programtakesoff100 program takes off 20. Percentages are handy when prices vary — the savings scale with the price. You can enter anything up to 100% (a 100% code makes the eligible line free). Because a big percentage on an expensive item can be a large dollar amount, percentage discounts also let you set a Max discount cap to limit the most that can come off any single line.

Fixed amount off

A fixed-amount discount takes a set dollar figure off each eligible line — for example, 15off.Ifthelinecostslessthanthediscount,onlythelinespricecomesoff,sothelinelandsat15 off. If the line costs less than the discount, only the line's price comes off, so the line lands at 0 rather than going negative. Fixed amounts are best when you want a predictable, flat savings regardless of the item’s price. The Max discount cap field is hidden for this type, since a fixed amount is already its own ceiling.

Choosing between them

Use a percentage for “X% off” promotions across items of different prices. Use a fixed amount for flat “$X off” offers or a set new-family welcome credit.
