Must know
  • A password sign-in after a while without signing in asks for a 6-character code sent to your email. It works for 10 minutes.
  • Only the newest code works: choosing Resend code cancels the earlier one.
  • Google, Microsoft and Email Code sign-ins never ask for this code.
  • Instead of typing the code, you can choose Verify and Sign In in the email, then enter your password again right away.
This is a security check, not a problem with your account. When it happens. You enter your email and password and choose Login. Once your password is accepted, the code is emailed and you see “A verification code has been sent to your email.” A wrong password sends nothing. Finish signing in. The email has the subject Your verification code. On the Verify your identity screen you have two choices:

Type the code

Enter the code in the Verification Code box, then choose Verify to finish signing in. The code has letters and digits.

Or use the email button

Choose Verify and Sign In in the email. You land on the login page with your email filled in and the message “Verification successful! Enter your password to continue.” Enter your password and choose Login right away. If you wait too long, sign in again from the start.
If the code doesn’t work. A wrong, replaced or expired code shows “Invalid or expired verification code.” Choose Resend code for a new email (“A new verification code has been sent to your email.”). Back to login returns you to the main sign-in form. An email link that has expired or was already used opens the login page with “That verification link has expired. Please request a new code.” Too many tries. Too many attempts in a short time show “Please wait a few minutes before trying again.” Email Code is different. The Email Code option on the login page signs you in without a password, so it never asks for this code. Didn’t try to sign in? The email advises resetting your password right away.
