Must know
  • Closing or archiving a conversation never deletes its message history — the full thread is preserved.
  • You can reopen a closed chat or unarchive an archived one at any time.
Every conversation has a status you control from the thread’s overflow menu — the button at the top-right of the open thread. Which options you see depends on the conversation’s current status.
  • Close Conversation. Marks an open thread as done. A Closed badge appears next to the family’s name. Use this to tidy up finished conversations while keeping the history.
  • Reopen. Available on a closed conversation, this returns it to open so you can keep messaging.
  • Archive. Moves a conversation out of the way. An Archived badge appears. Use it for threads you don’t expect to need soon.
  • Unarchive. Brings an archived conversation back to open.
None of these actions remove anything. Closing and archiving are organizational states, not deletions — reopen or unarchive and the whole thread is right where you left it, ready to continue.
