# Why can't I register my athlete for a program?

> The eligibility checks that can block a sign-up, and the message you'll see for each.

  **Must know**

  * Programs can restrict by age, gender, level, required membership, and required pass — the message names the exact requirement that wasn't met.
  * Age checks need a **birth date** on file. Without a date of birth, an age-restricted registration can't be completed at checkout.
  * Some programs require a **pass**; non-holders are blocked until a qualifying pass is held or added to the cart.

If a registration won't go through, the error names the specific requirement. The common ones:

* **Missing birth date** — *"…is missing a birth date, which is required for…"*. Add the athlete's date of birth to their profile, then try again.
* **Age** — *"…does not meet the age requirement…"*. The program is limited to a certain age range (shown in the message).
* **Gender** — *"…does not meet the gender requirement…"*. The program is restricted to specific genders.
* **Level** — *"…does not meet the level requirement…"*. The athlete needs to be at a required level, which your club assigns.
* **Membership** — *"…does not have the required membership…"*. Add the membership to your cart, or contact the club.
* **Pass** — *"…does not have the required pass…"*. Add the pass to your cart, or contact the club.

A few related reasons live in their own articles: a program that isn't open yet or has closed (a registration-window message), a program that's already full (join the waitlist instead), and an **invite-only** program that isn't open for public sign-up (you contact the club to ask about a spot rather than registering yourself).
