# How do I use my account credit to pay for a registration or an invoice?

> Type an amount into Apply account credit at your club website checkout or on an invoice you owe, then pay anything left by card or bank.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * **Credit is used only when you type an amount** into **Apply account credit**. It's never applied on its own.
  * **It works only at the club that holds it**, when you're signed in to your own account, at checkout or on an invoice you owe.
  * **Gift cards apply first**, then credit, then your card or bank. On an invoice, a card must be charged at least \$1.00 if you use one.
  * **If credit covers everything, you pay with no card and no service fee.**
</Note>

<Steps>
  <Step title="Find Apply account credit">
    At checkout on your club website, it's in the **Order Summary**. For an invoice you owe, open **Invoices** in the family portal (on a phone, tap **More** first), open the invoice and go to **Pay this order**. The field shows "\$\[amount] available" under its label.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Type how much to use">
    Enter up to your balance and what you owe, or you'll see "You only have $[amount] of account credit available." or "This order only needs $\[amount]." Credit comes off after tax and fees. At checkout, enter it before you select **Continue**: it locks once checkout moves on to the next step.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pay the rest, or confirm with no card">
    Pay anything left by card or bank. On an invoice, the amount locks once you pick a card or bank option. **Change payment method** unlocks it. If credit covers everything, the payment form is replaced by "Your account credit covers this order, so no payment is required." (or "Your gift cards and account credit cover this order, so no payment is required." if you used both). Select **Confirm registration** at checkout, or **Pay \$\[amount] with your balance** on an invoice.
  </Step>
</Steps>

**With gift cards.** Gift cards (**Apply gift card balance**, beside the credit field) are applied first, so credit covers only what they leave. If either one covers the whole order, the other field locks.

**Paying part of an invoice by card.** If the card would be charged less than $1.00, you'll see "Your card has to be charged at least $1.00. Apply a little less, or apply the full \$\[amount]."

**Held, not spent, while you pay.** Applied credit is set aside so it can't be spent twice, and used only once the payment goes through. Credit held by another checkout you started shows under the (i) beside the label as **In another checkout**, and frees up on its own once that checkout finishes or expires.

**After you pay.** Your invoice lists it as **Paid by account credit** under the total, and your receipt shows it too. If your club refunds the order, the credit part goes back to your credit balance, not your card.

**When it isn't offered.** Credit can't be combined with paying the club directly by cash or e-transfer. Payment plan installments and automatic payments don't offer it either.

**Your club can apply it for you.** Club staff can put your credit toward an invoice you owe.
