# How do I pay with a gift card at checkout, and what can I spend it on?

> Apply one or more gift cards at a club's checkout, read the greyed-out reasons, and check a balance, refund, or transfer in your portal.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * Gift Cards are available on plans that include **Gift Cards** — if a club doesn't offer them, no gift-card section appears at checkout.
  * **Your gift cards** appears only when you're signed in at that club's checkout and hold a card for it. Cards from other clubs never show up.
  * Gift cards apply **after tax and fees** — they reduce what you're charged, not the order total. If your cards cover everything, no payment method is charged.
  * Unused balance stays on the card for next time — no partial-card forfeiture, no cash-out.
</Note>

At checkout, find **Your gift cards** and tick the card you want. The row switches to **applying \$X**. You can apply several cards to one order; any remainder goes on your payment method.

Applying a card places a short hold (about 30 minutes) while you check out, so the balance can't be spent twice.

## Why a card might be greyed out

* **Only valid for \[what the card covers]** — a restricted card with nothing eligible in this cart.
* **Claim this card first** — it hasn't been claimed yet.
* **Locked by the gym** — the club has put a hold on it.
* **Fully used** — no balance left.
* **Can't be used to buy gift cards** — cards can't buy other cards.
* **Nothing left to pay** — other cards already cover it.

If a card is limited to one athlete, that limit applies to **program** purchases only — that athlete's registrations. Whatever else the card covers (memberships, passes, store items) stays usable for anyone in your family.

## Balances, refunds, and passing a card on

In the parent portal, open **Gift Cards** and click a card for the amount left, a **Spend on** line, and its **Activity** list (issued, claimed, redeemed, refunds).

If the club refunds an order you paid with a gift card, the gift-card portion goes back onto the **same card** first; only the rest returns to your payment method.

If the card is transferable, that page also has **Transfer gift card**: enter the recipient's email (name and note optional), then confirm — "Transfer \$X to \[email]. This card will leave your account." The whole card moves (balance, restrictions, history) and any athlete limit is cleared. It's blocked on a non-transferable card and mid-checkout ("This gift card is being used in a checkout right now").
