# Why can't I use my account at a club in another country?

> An Uplifter account works with clubs in one country only, the US or Canada, so a club in the other country needs a different email address.

  * **An Uplifter account works in one country only:** the US or Canada.
  * **To join a club in the other country**, sign up with a different email address.
  * **The first club you join or check out at** sets your account's country.

**How it works.** Your account takes the country of the first club you join or check out at. Clubs in that country accept it. Clubs in the other country do not, so checkout there stops with a message.

**What you see.**

| Where you are | Message |
| - | - |
| Signed in at checkout | "This account is already linked to gyms in the US. An account can only be used in a single region. Log out to check out with a different email." It says Canada if that is your account's country. |
| Checking out as a guest | "This email can't be used to check out at this gym. Please use a different email or sign in." |
| Checking out as a guest, and the email already has a login | "An account already exists for this email. Sign in to continue." Once you sign in, you see the first message. |

Signing up again on the club's website with the same email does not work either: no code is sent, and Uplifter emails you about the account you already have. Your club can't add that email as a guardian.

**How to fix it.**

    Choose **Log out** on the message. You come back to this checkout, signed out.

    Enter an email address you have not used with Uplifter, either as a guest at checkout or when you sign up on the club's website.

**Good to know.** Each email address is a separate account. Sign in with the matching email for each country's clubs.
