# Why do I need to enter an emailed code to log in?

> The extra email-code step you hit when logging in with a password after a long time away.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * If you haven't logged in for **more than 30 days**, a password login sends a **6-character code** to your email to confirm it's really you.
  * The code **expires after 10 minutes** and leaves out easily confused characters (no `0`/`O`, `1`/`I`/`L`).
  * Signing in through the emailed **magic link** instead of a password skips having to type the code.
</Note>

This is a one-time security check, not a problem with your account. When you sign in with your password after being away for more than 30 days, Uplifter emails you a short code to verify that it's you before letting you in.

To finish signing in, open the email, copy the 6-character code, and enter it on the verification screen — within 10 minutes. If it expires, request a new one and try again.

You'll only see this step after a long gap. Once you're back in and using your account regularly, password logins go straight through without the extra code.

If you'd rather not type a code, use the **Email Code** sign-in option and click the **magic link** in the email — that link signs you in directly and satisfies the same check.
