# How do I change my athlete's name, date of birth, gender or photo?

> Edit your athlete's name, date of birth, gender and photo from their page in the family portal.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * **Edit profile.** Open your athlete's page and choose **Edit profile** to change their first name, last name, date of birth or gender.
  * **Photo.** Change the photo from the athlete's picture on the same page.
  * **Club details.** Club details such as levels can only be changed by your club.
  * **If the athlete is you.** Your own page has no **Edit profile** button. Change your name and photo in **Settings** instead.

  <Step title="Open the athlete's page">
    Choose **Athletes**, then **View profile** on the athlete's card.

  <Step title="Change the details">
    Choose **Edit profile**. Update **First name**, **Last name**, **Date of birth** or **Gender** (**Male**, **Female**, **Other** or **Prefer not to say**), then choose **Save changes**. Both names are required, and the date of birth can't be in the future.

  <Step title="Change or remove the photo">
    Select the athlete's picture and choose an image up to 5MB. Crop it in **Crop Profile Picture**, then choose **Save**. The photo saves right away. Small buttons on the picture re-crop it (**Re-crop photo**) or remove it (**Remove photo**, then **Remove**).

**If the athlete is you.** Your page is marked **You**. Change your name or photo on the **Profile** card in **Settings** (choose **Save Changes** after a new name), and your athlete profile updates to match. To correct your date of birth or gender, ask your club.

**Birth dates and waivers.** When a new date of birth saves, Uplifter re-checks the age rules on your athlete's waivers. Waivers already signed stay signed. If a waiver now applies, one person in your family who can sign waivers gets an email listing it.

**What only your club can change.** Levels and the athlete's status are set by club staff.

**Who can edit.** Owners, co-managers and guardians in your family can. Someone with [Shared access](/families/families-household/share-access-to-an-athlete) needs **Edit profile** ticked under **Athlete profile**. Without it, changes to the details or photo don't save.
