# How do I combine two profiles for the same child?

> Use Combine duplicates on My athletes to merge two profiles of the same child into one, or ask your club when the button isn't there.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * **A merge can't be undone.** **Combine duplicates** on **My athletes** merges two profiles of the same child into one.
  * **The profile you keep wins.** Everything from the duplicate moves to the profile you keep, and that profile's own details win where both have one.
  * **Not everyone sees the button.** If you don't see **Combine duplicates**, or the other profile belongs to another family, ask your club to merge them.
</Note>

**Before you start.** The button appears only when at least two of your athletes qualify. Your own athlete profile qualifies, and so do athletes your club linked to your account when it brought its records into Uplifter. Children you added yourself with **Add Athlete** or while registering on your club website don't qualify, and neither do profiles in another family.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Combine duplicates">
    In the family portal, choose **Athletes**. On **My athletes**, choose **Combine duplicates**. The **Merge duplicate athletes** window opens.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pick the two profiles">
    Under **Duplicate (will be merged away)**, choose the extra profile. Under **Survivor (keeps its details)**, choose the one to keep. Each list shows the athletes you can combine.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Preview the merge">
    Choose **Preview merge**. **What moves to the survivor** lists what will move. If the profiles are the wrong way round, choose **Swap**. Then choose **Continue** (if the preview says the merge needs Uplifter support, see below).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm and merge">
    Under **Type the duplicate's name to confirm**, type the name shown in the box. Capital letters don't matter. "That does not match the duplicate." means the spelling is off. Choose **Merge athletes**. When you see **Merged**, choose **Close**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

**What happens to the duplicate.** It is retired, not deleted. Registrations, memberships, passes, waivers and other records move to the profile you keep. If both profiles hold the same membership, enrollment or pass, they're combined instead of blocking the merge. If both were being billed for it, the duplicate's recurring charge is cancelled, so your child isn't charged twice. A child at more than one club can still be combined.

**When a merge needs support.** In rare cases the preview says **This merge needs Uplifter support**, because the profiles have overlapping registration or billing history. Choose **Send to Uplifter support**. You'll see **Sent to Uplifter support**, and you get an email when it's completed or declined.
