# How do I add my child as an athlete?

> Add a child to your account with their name, date of birth, and gender — no club needed yet.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * Adding an athlete needs only **first name, last name, date of birth, and gender** — you don't pick a club here.
  * The **club is attached later**, automatically, when you register the athlete for a program.
  * You **can't add two athletes with the same name and date of birth** — the duplicate is blocked.
</Note>

Add each of your children once and they stay on your account across every club they attend.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Add Athlete form">
    In the parent portal, choose **Athletes**, then **Add Athlete**. You can also add a new athlete during checkout on a club's website — the "Who is this registration for?" step has an **Add Athlete** button.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter your child's details">
    Fill in **First Name**, **Last Name**, **Date of Birth**, and a **Gender Declaration**. Leave the **This athlete is me** switch off — that's only for registering yourself as an adult athlete.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Choose **Add Athlete**. Your child now appears as a card in your Athletes list, ready to register and to add medical info for. Any required waiver is signed as part of registering for a program at a club — not as a separate step on the new card.
  </Step>
</Steps>

If you see a duplicate warning, an athlete with that exact name and birth date is already on **your own account** — so check your Athletes list before adding again. Getting added to a child another family set up is a separate step; see the related article below.
