# How do I add an athlete who isn't on the roster?

> Pull a missing or walk-in athlete onto a session's roster with the Add athlete dialog.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * Use **Add athlete** on the session's Attendance screen to pull someone onto the roster.
  * You can add a walk-in even if they aren't enrolled in or registered for the program.
  * Once added, the athlete appears on the roster here and in the admin dashboard.
</Note>

Sometimes a child shows up who isn't on the list — a trial, a make-up, or a sibling filling in. You can add them right from the class.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Add athlete">
    On the class's **Attendance** screen, tap **Add athlete**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Search by name">
    Start typing the athlete's name. The dialog searches across all of your club's athletes; anyone already on this roster is hidden so you don't add a duplicate. At a large club, the list shows the first matches and notes "Showing the first 40 of …" — keep typing to narrow it down if the athlete you want isn't listed yet.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add them">
    Tap **Add** next to the right athlete. They drop onto the roster immediately, ready to be marked present.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The athlete doesn't need to be enrolled in or eligible for the program — adding them here works for walk-ins and drop-ins. Their attendance for this session is recorded just like anyone else's.
