> ## Documentation Index > Fetch the complete documentation index at: https://docs.uplifter.app/llms.txt > Use this file to discover all available pages before exploring further. # Why can't I text a family who opted out of SMS? > What the Opted Out badge means and how to keep reaching a family who stopped texts. **Must know** * Opting out only blocks the SMS channel — you can still reach the family on **Web Only** or **Web & Email**. * A family opts out by texting **STOP** to your club's number; they can rejoin by texting **START**. * Switch the conversation's channel to keep messaging them. If a family has opted out of texts, an **Opted Out** badge appears next to their name at the top of a **Web & SMS** conversation, and the message box is replaced with a note: *This recipient has opted out of SMS messages.* You can't send a text on that thread until they opt back in. This is a legal requirement, not a glitch. When someone replies **STOP** to a club text, Uplifter records the opt-out and stops all SMS to that number automatically — no coach can override it. If they change their mind, they text **START** to rejoin. The opt-out only affects texts. You can still reach the family every other way: * **Web Only** — post in their portal (no alert; they see it when they log in). * **Web & Email** — send a branded email they can reply to, if they have an email on file. To keep the conversation going, switch its channel from the channel pill at the top of the thread.
