# What is the platform fee on my Uplifter bill, and how is it calculated?

> Some Uplifter plans charge a percentage of your club's paid transactions, billed after each month ends, for that month, on its own Uplifter invoice and separate from the per-transaction fee.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * **Only some plans have one.** If yours does, the **Current plan** card shows **Platform fee: X% of paid transactions**. Plans without one don't show it anywhere.
  * **It's a percentage of what families paid your club in the month, before tax and fees.** Uplifter bills it after the month closes, as its own Uplifter invoice.
  * **It's separate from the processing fee.** The **Transaction fee: X% + \$Y per transaction** line on the same card is taken from each payment before your payout. The platform fee is billed to you afterwards.
  * **It can move your renewal to the 1st.** Moving up from Free to a monthly plan with a platform fee puts every renewal on the 1st of the month.
</Note>

**The short answer.** Uplifter adds up the eligible payments families made to your club each month, applies your plan's percentage, and bills you after the month ends, on top of your plan's flat fee.

**Where you see it.** Go to **Settings > Billing & Usage > Subscription Billing**.

| Where | What it shows |
| - | - |
| **Current plan** card | **Platform fee: X% of paid transactions**, with the note "Flat fee billed in advance; platform fee billed monthly in arrears on paid transactions, collected via pre-authorized debit." (in arrears means after each month ends) |
| **Change Subscription Plan** dialog (select **Change Plan**) | A **Platform Fee** row in **Plan Details**: "X% of paid transactions" |
| **Available plans** | "+ X% platform fee" under the rate in the **Transaction fee** column |
| **Billing history** | Each fee invoice as its own row, with "platform-fee" in the **Reference** |

**How it's calculated.** Each month's eligible total is multiplied by your plan's percentage and rounded to the nearest cent. For a family invoice, only the subtotal after discounts counts: if a family pays a $100.00 invoice plus tax, only the $100.00 counts.

| Counts toward the fee | Does not count |
| - | - |
| Payments made that month by card, bank, cash, check or e-transfer, up to each invoice's subtotal after discounts | Tax, service fees, surcharges and processing fees |
| A payment you record without an invoice, at its full amount | Gift cards and account credit that families use to pay (they count when the gift card is bought or the credit is loaded) |

Refunds, chargebacks and returned bank payments are not subtracted afterwards.

**When billing starts.** The fee starts with the month in progress when your club is first on a plan with a platform fee. Earlier months are never billed.

**How it's billed.**

* Each closed month becomes its own invoice in **Billing history**, charged right away: Uplifter account credit first, then your payment methods.
* A month with no eligible payments posts a **\$0.00** row marked **Paid**, with no charge.
* If the fee month closes on your renewal day, the fee is added to that renewal invoice instead.
* On a yearly plan, the plan fee is still charged once a year, but the platform fee is billed monthly.
* Clubs in Canada pay sales tax on it. See [Why is GST, HST, PST or QST added to my Uplifter bill?](/club/your-subscription/why-is-tax-added-to-my-uplifter-bill)
* A referral credit month covers only the plan fee, not the platform fee.
* Past-due clubs still get platform fee invoices; deactivated clubs don't. If a fee charge fails, see [What happens when my subscription payment fails?](/club/your-subscription/what-happens-when-my-payment-fails)

**Why your renewal date may be the 1st.** When you move from Free to a monthly plan with a platform fee, your first period ends on the 1st of the next month (UTC, the world standard time, so the new month starts the evening before in North America) and every renewal after that falls on the 1st. That short first period is still charged the full flat fee. A same-cycle upgrade between paid plans is prorated and keeps your current date.
