# How do I order and set up a card terminal for in-person payments?

> Order Adyen card readers, add ones that have arrived, and get them ready to take payments at the point of sale or on an invoice.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * **Where it lives.** **Settings > Financials > Terminals** appears only when your club has the **Store** feature. Viewing needs **View Financials**; ordering, adding, syncing or changing readers needs **Edit Financials**.
  * **Ordering charges you right away.** Your card on file is charged for the hardware, shipping and a service fee as soon as you submit. The total shows first.
  * **New readers must be activated.** Only **Active** readers take payments or show at the point of sale.
  * **Report a lost or stolen reader.** That disables it straight away, and only support can undo it.
</Note>

**Where to find it.** Open **Settings > Financials > Terminals** ("Manage your Adyen card readers and order new ones"; Adyen is Uplifter's payment processor). Across the top are **Sync Now**, **Add a Received Terminal** and **Order a Terminal**. With no readers yet, the page shows **No terminals yet**.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Order a terminal">
    Click **Order a Terminal**, choose a **Model** and **Quantity** (1 to 10), and pick a **Shipping Address**: **Organization address**, **Custom address** or one of your facilities. Add a contact name and phone. Terminals ship only within your club's country. Check **Total charged today**, then click **Submit Order**. You'll see **Order placed**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add a terminal you have received">
    Most terminals attach themselves once delivered. If yours hasn't appeared, click **Add a Received Terminal**, enter the **Serial Number** printed on the terminal or its box, and click **Add Terminal**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Activate it">
    A new reader shows as **Discovered**, named after its model. Click **Activate**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Name it and assign a facility">
    Click the pencil next to its name, type a new one (for example, "Front Desk") and press Enter. Pick where it sits under **Facility**, or leave it **Unassigned**. That choice saves at once.
  </Step>
</Steps>

**Tracking orders.** **Orders** lists each order's **Status** (**Placed**, **Confirmed**, **Shipped**, **Delivered** or **Cancelled**), the amount **Charged** and a **Track** link. If the charge fails, the order isn't placed: it shows **Cancelled** with **Charge failed**.

**Reading the list.** Each reader shows **Connection** (**Online** or **Offline**), **Model / Serial** and **Last Seen**. Switch between **Table** and **Cards**; phones open in **Cards**.

| Status | What it means | What you can do |
| - | - | - |
| Discovered | New, not turned on yet. | **Activate**, or report lost or stolen. |
| Active | Ready to take payments. | **Report a Problem**. |
| Out of Service | Unusable for now. | **Reactivate**, or report lost or stolen. |
| Lost / Stolen | Reported gone and disabled. | Contact support. |
| Missing | A sync couldn't find it. It goes back to Active when a later sync does. | Contact support. |
| Inactive | Taken out of use by support. | Contact support. |

**Reporting a problem.** **Report a Problem** offers **Out of service** (for example a dead battery, damage or a repair) and **Lost or stolen**. Add a **Note** on what happened, then click **Report**. The status changes straight away.

**Syncing.** **Sync Now** pulls in your readers and shows **Sync complete**. If terminals aren't available for your club, you'll see "Card terminals are not set up for your region yet. Contact support if you need a terminal." Until payment onboarding is finished, syncing and adding a reader say so instead.

**At the point of sale.** With an Active reader, **Card** opens **Card Terminal**. If you have more than one, pick the reader (each device remembers the last one used), then tap **Charge \$\[amount]**. **Use QR code instead** switches to a QR code. Gift-card carts always use it. See [How do I sell in person at the point of sale?](/club/website-store/sell-in-person-with-pos)

**On an invoice.** **Take payment** lists your readers under **Card terminal**. An offline or out-of-service reader stays listed with the reason but can't be picked. The button reads **Charge \$\[amount] on terminal**. See [How do I take a payment on an invoice?](/club/payments-checkout/take-a-payment-on-an-invoice)

**Receipts.** Either way, the reader prints an itemized receipt once the payment is approved.
