# How do I create and edit a waiver?

> Build a waiver's pages, fields and signing marks, set its PDF layout, publish it, and manage it from the waivers list.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * **Where and who.** Waivers live under **Athletes > Waivers**, and you need the **Edit Settings** permission to create or change one.
  * **Only Active waivers are offered.** Families are offered a waiver only while its **Status** is **Active**. **Unavailable** pauses new signing but keeps existing coverage.
  * **Marks per page, plus a final block.** Each page can require a signature, initials or both, and every waiver ends with a **Final Signing Block**.
  * **Signed waivers are archived, not deleted.** A waiver that has signatures cannot be deleted, only archived, and its signed records are kept.
</Note>

**Where to find it.** Go to **Athletes > Waivers** (also at **Settings > Athletes > Waivers**) and choose **Create Waiver**, or **Edit Waiver** from a waiver's row menu. The builder has four sections: **Document**, **Who signs and ages**, **When it's asked** and **Delivery and PDF**.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Name it and set the status">
    Enter a **Waiver Title** and leave **Status** on **Draft** while you write. **Active** offers it for signing, **Unavailable** pauses new signing until you switch back to **Active**, and **Archived** retires it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Write the pages">
    Signers see pages one at a time. Use **Add Page** and the arrows to add and reorder pages. Each page has an optional **Page Title** and a **Page Content** editor that supports headings, lists, links, text colors (including your brand colors) and images. **Who sees this page?** is **Everyone signing this waiver** or **Athletes in an age range** (**From age (included)**, **Until age (excluded)**).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Insert fields">
    **Insert field** in the editor toolbar adds live fields: **Signer details**, **Athlete details**, **Dates**, **Signatures and checkboxes** (Initials, Signature, Checkbox) and **Custom questions**. Set **Require an answer** and **Allow signer to edit profile details** before you insert. Dates and age are always read-only, and required custom questions stay required. Image Upload, File Upload and Signature questions, and questions that ask for a signature on "Yes", can't be inserted.

    **Optional agreements.** To let signers agree to some parts and not others, insert a **Checkbox** with **Require an answer** left unticked.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the signing marks">
    Turn on **Require signature on this page** or **Require initials on this page** as needed, then set **Final Signing Block > Requires** to **Signature only** (the default), **Initials only** or **Signature and initials**. Every signer completes this block at the end.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the PDF layout">
    Under **PDF layout**, choose a **Paper size** (Letter, Legal or A4; Letter by default) and a **Margin on every side (points)** from 24 to 144 (72 points = 1 inch; 54 by default). Signed copies keep the layout they were signed with.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save or publish">
    A title and content on every page are required. The button reads **Save draft** for a draft, **Publish waiver** when you switch to **Active**, and **Save changes** otherwise. Publishing a saved draft asks **Publish this waiver?**. Changing a saved waiver's pages, signing rules or PDF layout shows **Review waiver changes**. Existing signatures keep their original wording, and nobody has to re-sign unless you choose it (see [expiry and re-signing](/club/waivers/waiver-expiry-revisions-and-re-signing)).
  </Step>
</Steps>

**Preview the printed waiver.** After saving, reopen the waiver with **Edit Waiver** and choose **View blank PDF** or **Download blank PDF** under **PDF layout**. Blank copies use the last saved settings. There is no preview of the on-screen signing steps; the blank PDF shows the wording and layout families sign.

**The waivers list.** Columns are **Title**, **Status**, **Availability**, **Pages**, **Valid signatures** and **Created**. The status filter starts on **Current** (everything except archived) and also offers each status or **All statuses**. **Availability** reads **Offered**, **Not offered**, **Not offered yet**, **No longer offered** or **No season running**.

**Row actions.** Each row's menu has **Signatures**, **Edit Waiver**, and **Delete Waiver** (before anyone signs; permanent) or **Archive Waiver** (once signed; every signed record is kept).

**Archiving a waiver that is still required.** If a program, pass, store product or other rule still requires it, you choose what happens to those rules:

* **Stop requiring this waiver**: removes it from every rule. A rule left asking for nothing switches off.
* **Keep it listed, switch the gate off**: rules keep it selected but stop blocking anyone.
* **Leave the rules exactly as they are**: an archived waiver is never offered, so a rule asking only for it enforces nothing.

**Attaching it.** Programs use **Waiver Requirement** on the **Requirements** step. Passes and store products use **Waivers before purchase**. Only **Active** waivers can be newly picked there.
