# Where do I see and edit answers to custom questions?

> Find an athlete, family, or purchase answer to a custom question, correct it where you can, and pull every answer at once from a report.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * **Answers live with who they're about.** Athlete answers are on the athlete's **Custom Info** tab, family answers on the family's record, and purchase answers on the invoice, where they're read only.
  * **Coaches see an answer only when the question has Show on attendance roster on** (off by default), read only, beside each athlete as they take attendance.
  * **Reports > Compliance > Custom Questions lists every answer** in one table you can filter and export (needs **Reports** on your plan too).
  * **Needs Custom Information.** None of this shows unless your plan includes it.
</Note>

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the athlete's Custom Info tab">
    Go to **Athletes > Directory**, open the athlete, and select **Custom Info**. With no questions set up, the tab reads **No custom information questions configured**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add or correct the answer">
    Choose **Add answer** or **Edit** (needs the **Edit Athletes** permission). In the **Add response** or **Edit response** panel, change the value and choose **Save**. You'll see **Answer saved**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

**Uploads, signatures and serial numbers.** A **File Upload** or **Image Upload** question has an **Upload file** or **Replace file** field instead of **Edit**, and staff can't change a **Signature** answer here. A saved **Serial Number** can't be edited unless the question has **Allow a saved number to be changed** on. Typing a number above the next automatic one asks **Move the automatic numbering?** first: the numbers in between are skipped, and the numbering can't be moved back. See [Assign member numbers with a serial-number question](/club/registration-enrollment/assign-member-numbers-with-a-serial-number-question).

**Family answers.** Go to **Athletes > Families** (needs **View Families**), open the family, and find the **Family questions** card. Choose **Answer questions** or **Update answers** (needs **Edit Families**). With nothing saved, the card reads **No answers recorded yet.**

**Purchase answers.** On an invoice (**Financials > Invoices**), a **Purchase answers** card appears when the purchase has answers, including each item's. Families see them as **Purchase questions** on their order in the family portal. Neither screen can change them.

**Membership files.** A membership's page lists files uploaded to its questions under **Documents from custom questions**.

**Every answer at once.** **Reports > Compliance > Custom Questions** has one row per answer, with columns **Answer for**, **Subject**, **Question**, **Answer**, **Responded** and **Responded By**. Filter to one program, or by season, category or level. **Responded** starts at the last 365 days, so widen it for older answers. Family rows need **View Families** and purchase rows **View Financials**. Select an athlete's name to open their record.
