# How do I create and sell punch cards?

> Create a punch card type under Financials > Punch Cards, sell it in your club website's store, let programs accept punches, and grant cards to families.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * **A plan feature.** When your plan includes it (see **Settings > Organization > Features**), staff with **View Financials** see **Financials > Punch Cards**.
  * **A way to pay, not a lower price.** A punch card pays for a registration or drop-in in punches, so that line bills \$0.
  * **Recurring cards never carry punches over.** A monthly or yearly card issues a brand new card each cycle, with its own expiry.
</Note>

**What a punch card is.** A prepaid pack of punches families spend on registrations and drop-ins. A pass lowers the price, while a punch card pays it ([compare them](/club/passes/passes-vs-punch-cards)).

**Before you start.** Creating a card type needs **Edit Financials** and **Create Financials**. Editing one needs **Edit Financials**, and granting one needs **Create Financials**.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Punch Cards">
    Go to **Financials > Punch Cards** and click **New card type**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Fill in the form">
    Enter a **Name** (such as "10-Class Card"), a **Price** and **Punches**, then the fields below. **Preview** shows the card face.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Click **Create punch card**. You'll see "Punch card created".
  </Step>
</Steps>

| Field | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Description**, **Card image**, **Card color** | What families see. The color shows when there's no image. |
| **Punches** | 10 by default, up to 500. |
| **Expiry** | **Never expires** (default), or **Weeks after purchase**, **Months after purchase** or **Years after purchase**. |
| **Billing** | **Buy once** (default), **New card every month** or **New card every year**. |
| **GL Code** | Optional: where the revenue posts. |
| **Available online** | On: families can buy it in your store. Off: staff can still grant it. |
| **Active** | Master switch: off hides the card everywhere, including from staff. |

**The list.** Each row shows price, punches, expiry, billing, **Online** (**Yes** or **Staff-only**), **Cards issued**, **Active cards**, **Punches outstanding** and **Status**. Its menu has **View issued cards**, **Edit punch card**, **Deactivate** or **Activate**, and **Delete** (**Retire** once cards have been issued).

**Selling it in your store.** Active card types with **Available online** on appear under **Punch cards**, below the products on your club website's Store page (your plan must include **Store**, and the **Store** page must be on under **Settings > Website > Pages**). A card is bought for a family, not one athlete. A buyer with no family must create or join one first. Discounts never apply to a punch card purchase.

**Letting a program take punches.** On a program's **Billing** step or tab, the pricing section has **Pay with a punch card** ("Punches cover the whole charge. This line bills \$0 and is not taxed."). Choose **Add punch card price**, pick a card type and set what one use costs in punches (1 by default), for the full program or for drop-ins. The program's price, including any pass or membership price, is worked out first, so punches never compete with it, and paying in punches never spends a pass credit too.

**Granting a card.** On a card type's page (click its row), click **Grant card**. Choose the **Family** that will own it, optionally turn on **Set a custom end date**, add a **Note**, and click **Grant card**. Nothing is billed and no invoice is created.

**What families see.** When a program accepts punches and the family holds a qualifying card, registration offers **Pay with a punch card**. Families track punches on the **Punch Cards** page of the family portal. When you [enroll an athlete yourself](/club/athletes-families/how-do-i-charge-a-family-when-i-enroll-an-athlete), a family card that covers it is used unless you choose **Pay instead**.
