# How do I assign coaches and staff to a program?

> Add coaches, set their roles and a primary, and control public visibility.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * Staff are assigned on the **Staff** step. Each coach gets a role, and one is marked **Primary**.
  * If your club requires certifications for program coaches, staff missing a required one can't be added here — they appear greyed out with a "Missing" note, and the required certifications are listed just below the **Add Staff Member** picker.
  * The **Show Coach on Marketing Site** toggle controls whether an assigned-coach preview appears on the program's public card; it doesn't affect the full program page, which always lists every assigned coach.

On the **Staff** step (the *Staff Assignments* card):

  <Step title="Add coaches">
    Use **Add Staff Member** to pick a coach from your staff list. Repeat for everyone who works the program.

  <Step title="Set roles">
    Give each person a role — **Lead Coach**, **Assistant Coach**, **Substitute**, or **Volunteer** — using the dropdown next to their name.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Mark a primary">
    Click the star to set the **Primary** coach. The first person you add is primary by default; on the public program card the primary is the coach marked with a star.

  <Step title="Control public display">
    Toggle **Show Coach on Marketing Site** on or off to decide whether the assigned-coach preview (all assigned coaches, with the primary starred) appears on the program's public card. The full program page lists every assigned coach either way.

These coaches become the default staff for every session the program generates. Need a different coach for just one date? Override it on that session instead — see the article below.
