# How do I pause, resume, or cancel a recurring charge?

> Use the per-charge actions on the Recurring Billing page and know when to reach for each one.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * **Cancelling a charge is permanent** — if you only need to stop it for a while, pause it instead.
  * A charge showing **No payment method** won't run at all until the guardian saves a payment method (a card or bank account).
  * Charges tied to a pass, membership, or enrollment **end on their own** when that item does — the status shows **Completed** if the item ran its full term, or **Cancelled** if it was cancelled or removed early. You don't need to cancel these by hand.
</Note>

Every row on **Financials → Recurring Billing** has an action menu (the **⋯** button). Which actions show up depends on the charge's current status.

* **Pause** — on an **Active** charge. It stops billing but keeps the schedule, so you can pick it back up. Use this for a temporary hold, like a family taking a season off.
* **Resume** — on a **Paused** charge. Billing continues on its schedule.
* **Retry** — on a **Failed** charge. This puts it back to Active so it can be attempted again (see the failure article for the full recovery path).
* **Cancel** — on any charge that isn't already cancelled. This ends the charge for good.
