# How do I cancel a member's membership?

> End one member's membership at their period end, with a coverage-gap check.

  **Must know**

  * Cancelling is **cancel-at-period-end** — the member keeps access through the end of the period they've paid for, not immediately.
  * If cancelling would leave the athlete without required coverage for a membership-gated program, a **coverage-gap warning** appears — but you can still proceed.
  * A **cancellation notice is sent to the member's guardian**.

This cancels one athlete's membership. To wind down a whole membership and everyone on it at once, deactivate the membership itself instead.

  <Step title="Open the member">
    On the membership's detail page, find the athlete under **Members** and click **Manage** in their row to open the action panel.

    Under **Cancel membership**, click **Cancel at period end**.

  <Step title="Review any coverage warning">
    A confirmation appears showing the date coverage ends. If the athlete is committed to a program that requires this membership and has no other membership covering it, you'll see a **Coverage gap** warning listing those programs. This is a warning, not a block — you can still proceed.

    Click **Cancel at period end** to confirm, or **Keep membership** to back out. The member is flagged to end at their period end, and their guardian is sent a cancellation notice.

Because cancellation takes effect at the period end, the member isn't cut off mid-period and isn't billed for the next cycle. Their status shows the pending cancellation and the exact end date until then. Because coverage runs through the period end either way, an accidental cancel doesn't cut the athlete off right away — but there's no one-click way to clear a pending cancellation once it's set, so double-check before you confirm.
