# What is a competition in Uplifter?

> How a competition is structured — events, categories, entries, seed marks, and results.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * Available on plans that include **Competitions** — this feature defaults off, so it may need to be enabled on your plan first. If you don't see it, ask your Uplifter contact.
  * Every competition is tied to a **sport** (such as Gymnastics), chosen when you build it — the sports available to you depend on how your organization is set up.
  * Results are admin-only — there is no public leaderboard or results page.
</Note>

A competition is a meet you run end to end: you build the **events** athletes can enter (for example 100m or Long Jump), cross them with **age and gender categories**, publish the competition to your public site, take registrations, optionally collect **seed marks**, and record **results** afterward.

The building blocks:

* **Categories / events** — the specific things an athlete signs up for, built from a shared sport-event catalog or your own custom templates. See [Set up competition categories and events](/club/events-competitions/set-up-competition-categories).
* **Entries** — one athlete in one category. There's a single entry per athlete per category, created when registration is paid.
* **Seed marks** — an optional qualifying or seeding time/mark submitted at registration. Marks on entries you create as an admin can be held for your review; marks submitted through public registration are approved automatically. See [What are seed marks?](/club/events-competitions/review-competition-seed-marks).
* **Results** — placement, times, distances, heights, scores, and more, entered after the meet. See [How do I record competition results?](/club/events-competitions/record-competition-results).

A single registrant can enter multiple priced events at once, and athletes who aren't yet in your club can register too — they're added to your roster once they pay.
