# What happens when an athlete outside my club registers?

> How non-member athletes register for a competition and land on your roster after payment.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * Available on plans that include **Competitions** (defaults off) — if you don't see it, ask your Uplifter contact.
  * Athletes who aren't members of your club can register, and on **paid** registration they're automatically added to your roster.
  * Entries are created **on payment**, not when items are added to the cart.
</Note>

Competitions are built for "bring your own athlete" meets: a guardian from another club can register their athlete for your competition through your public site. This is normal and expected.

**What the registrant does.** They open the competition on your public site, pick (or add) their athlete, the eligibility check returns the categories that athlete qualifies for, they select events, enter any required seed marks, sign waivers, answer required questions, and check out.

**What happens on your side.** When payment succeeds:

* The athlete's competition **entries** are created — one per category they entered.
* If that athlete isn't already in your club, they're **added to your roster** automatically, so they appear alongside your own athletes for that competition.

**Capacity at the finish line.** Capacity is enforced at checkout under a lock, so two people can't over-fill a full competition at the same moment. If the competition is at or over its cap when payment lands, that athlete's entries are skipped rather than erroring out.

Because entries only materialize on payment, an abandoned cart never creates an entry or adds an athlete to your roster.
