# How do I edit or delete an event?

> Change an event's details, schedule or requirements after it's created, or delete it.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * **Edit covers three steps.** General, Schedule and Requirements only. Staff can't be changed after the event is created, and ticket types live on the **Tickets** tab.
  * **Delete is permanent.** It removes all attendee registrations and can't be undone.
  * **Ticket sales block delete.** An event with ticket sales can't be deleted. Deactivate its ticket types instead.
  * **Plan features.** Events need a plan with **Events**. The **Tickets** tab and the draft and publish buttons also need **Event Ticketing**.
</Note>

**Where to find it.** Open the event from **Registrations > Events** and click **Edit**, or choose **Edit Event** from a row's menu in the events list. Both open the **Edit event** panel.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Update General, Schedule or Requirements">
    **General** covers the name, description, color, category, event type and GL code. **Schedule** covers the date, times and location. **Requirements** covers restrictions such as capacity, age, membership and waivers. Every requirement you set is saved and shows again next time you edit. Click **Next** to move between steps.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    On **Requirements**, click **Save Event**. If your club has Event Ticketing, choose **Save as draft** or **Save & publish** instead. A draft isn't shown or sold on your club website. Publishing with no active ticket types still saves, but warns "This event has no active ticket types, so buyers will see nothing to purchase."
  </Step>
</Steps>

**What Edit can't change.** Staff are set only when the event is created. Afterward the **Staff** tab just lists them. Manage ticket types on the **Tickets** tab: **New ticket type**, plus each row's **Edit**, **Activate** or **Deactivate**, and **Delete**. A ticket type with sold tickets can only be deactivated.

**Delete an event.** On the event page, click the trash icon next to **Edit**, then click **Delete** in the "Delete \[event name]?" dialog. You see "Event deleted" and return to the events list.

**When delete is refused.** If the event has ticket sales (even unpaid ones) or linked invoice line items, you see "Failed to delete event". To stop sales, deactivate its ticket types instead.

**Permissions.** Editing needs **Edit Events**; deleting needs **Delete Events**.
