# How do I limit how many times a code can be used?

> Set a global redemption cap and a per-customer limit on a discount code.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * Redemptions only count when an order is actually **paid**, so abandoned carts never use up capacity.
  * **Uses per customer** counts per athlete for program, membership, and pass lines, but per account for store items.
  * When the **Total redemptions** cap is reached, the code flips to **Expired**.
</Note>

Two fields on the **Pricing** step of the wizard control how many times a code can be redeemed. Both are optional — leave them blank for unlimited.

## Total redemptions

This is a global cap across your whole club. For example, set it to 50 to run a "first 50 families" promotion. Once 50 paid orders have used the code, it turns **Expired** and stops working for everyone. The placeholder reads "Unlimited" until you enter a number.

## Uses per customer

This caps how many times one customer can use the code. For programs, memberships, and passes, "customer" means each athlete — so a limit of 1 lets a family redeem the code once per child. For store items, the limit is counted per account. Blank means a customer can use it as often as the total cap allows.

Because both counts only tick up when payment succeeds, a family who starts a cart but doesn't pay doesn't consume a use. You can watch usage climb on the discount's detail page.
