# What do the discount statuses mean?

> Draft, Scheduled, Active, Expired, and Deactivated explained, with how codes move between them.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * **Scheduled** discounts turn **Active** automatically on their start date — you don't have to do anything.
  * **Expired** is permanent. A code expires when its end date passes or when it hits its total-redemptions cap.
  * **Draft** and **Deactivated** are set by you and never change on their own from dates.
</Note>

Every discount shows a status badge on the **Discounts** list and its detail page. Here's what each one means.

* **Draft** — Saved but not published. It can't be redeemed and shows "Not published." Draft is fully editable.
* **Scheduled** — Published with a future **Valid from** date. It shows "Starts \<date>" and becomes **Active** automatically when that day arrives. Still editable while scheduled.
* **Active** — Live and redeemable at checkout. Shows the end date ("Until \<date>") or "No end date." An active code's settings are locked.
* **Expired** — No longer usable, and it's permanent. A code expires when its **Valid to** date passes or when it reaches its total-redemptions cap.
* **Deactivated** — Turned off by you. It shows "Disabled" and won't apply to new orders, but you can reactivate it later.

The three live states — Active, Scheduled, and Expired — are worked out automatically from the code's dates and usage. Draft and Deactivated reflect your own choices and stay put until you change them.

You can filter the Discounts list by any of these statuses using the **Status** picker.
