# How do I help a guardian who can't sign in?

> Resend the invite to a guardian who hasn't activated, send a password reset to one who has, or revoke an invite you no longer want.

  **Must know**

  * **Invited guardians need a new invite.** Use **Resend invite link**: the new link lasts 7 days and the old one stops working.
  * **Active guardians need a password reset.** Use **Send password reset**: the reset link expires after 1 hour.
  * **Permissions.** Sending a password reset needs the **Create Staff** permission. Resending or revoking an invite needs **Create Families**.
  * **The email can't be changed.** It's the guardian's sign-in, and it can't be changed from the admin dashboard.

  <Step title="Check their status">
    Go to **Athletes > Guardians**, find the guardian, and note whether their **Status** is **Invited** or **Active**. Use the three-dot menu on their row (Invited rows can't be opened) or the **Actions** menu on their profile.

  <Step title="Invited: resend the invite">
    Choose **Resend invite link** (**Actions > Resend invite** on a profile). A fresh 7-day link is emailed and the earlier one stops working. Wait about a minute between sends, or you'll see "An invite was just sent - try again in a minute".

  <Step title="Active: send a password reset">
    Choose **Send password reset**. The emailed link expires after 1 hour and cancels any earlier reset link.

**If the resend is refused.** "This guardian has already activated their account" means they're Active. An Invited guardian becomes Active by resetting their password (via **Forgot your password?**), or by signing in if they already had a login, without the invite link. Send a password reset instead.

**What an old invite link shows.** A replaced link says "A newer invitation was sent to this address. Open the latest email from Uplifter.", or "You already have an account. Sign in." once they've set up their account. A link past its 7 days says "This invitation has expired. Please contact the administrator for a new invitation.", so resend.

**Revoking an invite.** Choose **Revoke invite** and confirm. The pending guardian is removed and the link stops working at once: it now says "This invitation has been cancelled". You can invite them again later.

**The email is their sign-in.** Invites and resets go to the address on file, and **Actions > Edit details** shows **Email** locked: "The email is this guardian's login and can't be changed." If an Invited guardian's address is wrong, revoke the invite and add them again.
