# How do I add or remove account credit for a guardian?

> Use Adjust credit on a guardian's profile to add or deduct account credit, with the limits, Undo, and where each change shows.

  **Must know**

  * **Open the guardian, then Actions > Adjust credit.** Use **+** to add credit or **-** to deduct it.
  * **You can't deduct more than the credit available.** Each adjustment is limited to \$100,000.00.
  * **The confirmation offers Undo.** Every change is listed in the **Account Balance** ledger.
  * **You need the Create Financials permission.** Families spend credit at online checkout. Staff apply it to an invoice with **Take payment**.

  <Step title="Open Adjust credit">
    Go to **Athletes > Guardians**, open the guardian and select **Actions > Adjust credit**. It's also on the guardian's row menu in the list.

  <Step title="Choose the direction and amount">
    Select **+** to add or **-** to deduct, then enter the **Amount** as a positive number. The line below says what **Save** will do, for example "Adds \$25.00 to their credit balance."

    Explain the change under **Note (optional)**, up to 2,000 characters.

    Select **Save**. The confirmation shows the new balance, for example "Added $25.00 credit. Balance $\[new balance]", with **Undo**.

**Limits.** Each adjustment can be up to $100,000.00. A deduction can't be more than the guardian's credit ("Only $\[amount] is available to remove."), and credit that a checkout in progress is holding can't be removed ("A checkout in progress is holding this credit - try again in a few minutes.").

**Undo.** **Undo** reverses that one change: "Credit change undone. Balance \$\[balance]." It can't bring back credit already spent. Undo is only on the confirmation. To fix an older change, adjust in the opposite direction.

**Where the change shows.** Each add, deduct and undo is its own line in the **Account Balance** tab's ledger, labelled **Credit added** or **Credit removed**, and is recorded on the guardian's **Activity** tab. The **Credits** card reads "Available to apply" while there's credit.

**Who can do this.** Without the **Create Financials** permission, **Adjust credit** doesn't appear in either menu. Seeing the balance, the ledger and those **Activity** entries needs the **View Financials** permission. A guardian who is still **Invited** doesn't have the option.

**How credit gets spent.** Credit spends like cash on future payments. Families apply it with **Apply account credit** when they check out online. Staff choose **Account credit** as the **Payment method** in **Take payment** on an invoice. Enrolling an athlete from the dashboard doesn't use it: the **Payment** step only notes "Account credit available: \$\[amount] (not applied here)."
