# How do I add an athlete to my roster?

> Add a new athlete from the Athlete Directory with the Add Athlete dialog.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * **First name, last name, and a Guardian are required.** The form won't submit until all three are filled in.
  * The **Guardian picker searches existing guardians only** — there is no create-a-new-guardian option in this dialog, so add or invite the guardian first.
  * **Date of birth is optional** when adding an athlete, and future dates are blocked.

New athletes are added from the **Athlete Directory**. The **Levels** field only appears when the Training feature is enabled for your club.

  <Step title="Open the Add Athlete dialog">
    On the Athlete Directory, click **Add Athlete** in the top right.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the athlete's name">
    Fill in **First Name** and **Last Name**. Both are required.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the guardian">
    Click the **Guardian** picker and search for the parent or guardian to link. Only guardians who already exist in your club appear here — if you can't find them, [add or invite the guardian first](/club/athletes-families/how-do-i-add-or-invite-a-guardian), then come back.

  <Step title="Add optional details">
    Set the **Date of Birth** if you have it (future dates are not allowed). If your club uses training levels, pick one or more in the **Levels** field.

  <Step title="Save">
    Click **Add Athlete**. The athlete is created with an **Active** status and appears in your directory.
